BULAWAYO City and Harare City are involved in what could be a thrilling contest as both teams target maximum points that could enhance their survival chances in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.

The Bulawayo-based local authority side has been on song in the last few matches where it has notched up three wins on the trot, bringing its campaign back to life having looked dead and buried just a few weeks ago.

Bulawayo City defeated Bulawayo Chiefs at Luveve, Dynamos at BF and ZPC Kariba on the road.

Before that winning streak they had suffered four defeats on the trot and the recent run, despite still teetering in the relegation zone, have seen them move to position 15 on the log table with 33 points and needing a win today and in their last game against Black Rhinos away.

They must win today and pray that ZPC Kariba, on 35 points, lose to Highlanders tomorrow at BF.

Coach Farai Tawachera is fully aware of the impending scenario and says these games are no longer about playing well but just winning.

“It's a very important game for us. We will try to play without pressure, knowing that there is still a game to play next week. So we treat it like any other game, the objective being to get maximum points. Football is like that: you play well and lose, play badly and win. What is needed where we are now is three points and not how you play,” Tawachera said.

He added: “The trick lies in self-belief, hard work and the desire to continue to be amongst the big boys of Zimbabwe football. The morale is high in camp and everyone is raring to go. It’s a weekend of football and we enjoy playing at BF .We are prepared well though we have few minor injuries which we hope those affected will pass late fitness tests.”

If it all goes by form, the odds will favour Bulawayo City in the game against a Harare City side, also seeking redemption in these last games, but have been on a bad patch, winning a single match in their last five games in which they have lost three and drawn one.

Harare City have amassed 29 points, six from safety and their destiny may depend on other teams even if they were to collect all points on offer.
