Residents petition Umzingwane RDC over poor service delivery

One of the petitioners, Amhlophe Sibanda, accused the local authority of billing them for non-existent services.

UMZINGWANE residents have petitioned their rural district council (RDC) over unjustified tariff charges and poor service delivery.

One of the petitioners, Amhlophe Sibanda, accused the local authority of billing them for non-existent services.

“We decided to petition the council against unlawful tariff, sewer charges and lease charges because of continuing abuse of public funds,” Sibanda said.

“Earlier this year, council billed residents for sewage services where there is no sewer system.”

In the petition, the residents accuse the council of using unexplained abbreviations to bill them for some services.

Council chairperson Charles Mpofu confirmed receiving the petition.

“The petition by the residents was received and was not discussed in our last budget consolidation special council meeting,” Mpofu said.

“The reason being in a special meeting only specific items on the agenda are deliberated on. Nevertheless the petition will be discussed in the next finance meeting.”

Mpofu confirmed cases of residents who were wrongly billed.
