Write down the vision

In this season of renewal, a timeless wisdom echoes through the pages of the Bible—a wisdom that beckons us to inscribe our visions upon the tablets of our hearts and document them with purpose.

As we stand on the threshold of a new year, the air is pregnant with anticipation and the promise of fresh beginnings. It is a time when many of us contemplate resolutions and set goals, aiming to chart a course toward personal and spiritual growth. In this season of renewal, a timeless wisdom echoes through the pages of the Bible—a wisdom that beckons us to inscribe our visions upon the tablets of our hearts and document them with purpose.

In the book of Habakkuk, we find a powerful exhortation that transcends time: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets so he may run who reads it” (Habakkuk 2:2, ESV). This divine counsel, spoken to the prophet in the midst of uncertainty, carries profound implications for us as we navigate the uncharted waters of a new year. The act of writing down a vision, as endorsed by Scripture, is more than a mere exercise in goal-setting; it is a spiritual discipline infused with transformative potential.

As we delve into the biblical tapestry, we discover that the very essence of creation is woven with words. In Genesis, God spoke the world into existence, and through the Gospel of John, we understand that the Word became flesh. The power of words is intricately linked to the divine, and as bearers of the imago Dei, we are endowed with a similar creative force. This article embarks on a journey through scriptural narratives and teachings, unraveling the profound connection between writing down a vision and the unfolding of God’s purpose in our lives.

The Scriptural Foundation

In embracing the call to write down our visions, we find a robust scriptural foundation that illuminates this practice. Proverbs 29:18 reminds us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (KJV). This poignant verse underscores the vitality of having a clear and defined vision for our lives. When we put pen to paper, or in the modern context, fingers to keyboard, we engage in a deliberate act of co-creation with the Divine.

Consider the life of Joseph, a visionary whose dreams served as a compass guiding him through the peaks and valleys of his journey. Despite facing adversity, Joseph clung to the vision God had given him, ultimately becoming a source of blessing for his family and a transformative figure in the Egyptian kingdom.

Furthermore, the Psalms abound with instances where the writers pour out their visions, aspirations, and struggles before the Almighty. In Psalm 37:4, we are encouraged to “delight ourselves in the Lord, and he will give us the desires of our hearts.” Writing down our visions is an expression of this delight, an act of surrender that aligns our desires with the divine will.

In the New Testament, the apostle Paul provides a compelling example of a man who penned his vision for the expansion of the Gospel. Through his letters, we witness the unfolding of Paul’s vision to see Christ proclaimed in regions where His name had not been heard. Paul’s writings not only preserved his vision but also became foundational for the early Christian church.

As we navigate the landscape of Scripture, we encounter a tapestry of visionaries who etched their dreams into the narrative of God’s redemptive plan. From Noah building the ark to Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem, the Bible is replete with instances of individuals who dared to articulate their visions, bringing about transformative change.

As we stand on the cusp of a new year, armed with the timeless wisdom of Scripture and a vision inscribed with purpose, let us embark on a transformative journey. The act of writing down our visions is more than a ritual; it is a sacred dialogue with the Creator, a partnership in the ongoing work of creation and redemption.

Biblical examples abound of individuals seeking and receiving divine guidance as they set and pursued their goals. Abraham, called to leave his homeland and journey to an unknown destination, received clear guidance from God. His trust in divine direction became a model for goal-setting anchored in faith.

Similarly, Gideon sought confirmation through signs before stepping into his leadership role (Judges 6:36-40). God’s patient guidance and affirmation empowered Gideon to pursue his goals with confidence, showcasing the importance of seeking divine wisdom in the process of goal-setting.

The story of Solomon, who asked God for wisdom to lead the people of Israel, emphasizes the significance of aligning personal goals with God’s plan (1 Kings 3:5-14). Solomon’s pursuit of divine guidance in setting his priorities resulted in a legacy of wisdom and prosperity.

As we set our visions for the New Year, the biblical principle of seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness (Matthew 6:33) becomes a guiding light. When our goals are aligned with God’s purposes, we tap into a wellspring of divine wisdom and guidance that transcends our limited understanding.

In the tapestry of biblical narratives, we find visionaries who, against all odds, pursued their dreams with unwavering faith. From the clarity of Abraham’s call to the resilience of Joseph, the overcoming spirit of David, and the wisdom-seeking heart of Solomon, their stories echo through the ages, beckoning us to inscribe our own visions upon the tablets of our hearts.

May this New Year be a canvas for the manifestation of God’s purpose in your life? As you navigate challenges, seek divine guidance, and articulate your aspirations with clarity, may your written vision become a testimony to the transformative power of faith in action?

In the words of the Psalmist, “Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act” (Psalm 37:5, ESV). As you commit your written vision to the hands of the Almighty, trust that He will guide your steps and fulfill the desires of your heart.

May your journey be marked by the divine imprint on every written word, and may the unfolding chapters of the New Year reveal the extraordinary story written by the Author of life. No matter what problems you may encounter, never give up and stop your vision. People may talk and discourage you but don’t stop, they will soon celebrate you.
