AT least 342 housing units in Hwange, Matabeleland North province, are being connected to the main sewer reticulation system under a US$250 000 project.
Hwange-based housing scheme contractor, Dynamic Fund Housing Trust, is co-ordinating the project at Dynamic village in the coal mining town.
The project kicked off in July with a December deadline.
Dynamic Fund Housing Trust chairperson, Festus Chirwa said: “Most of the work is done by Dynamic providing labour and material. The consultant comes in with their experts like civil engineers, plumbers and surveyors.
“We are supposed to connect 342 housing units on the sewer line in the first phase. The sewer is expected to be finished by November or December.”
The second phase will cover 159 medium-density housing, schools, churches and shopping stands which are within the Dynamic Housing area.
“We are doing this with our members and the only cost that we are paying the consultant is their professional fee and all those things and most of the work is done,” he said.
In an interview yesterday, Hwange Local Board spokesperson Dumisani Nsingo hailed the project saying: “Hwange Local Board can confirm that Dynamic Fund Co-operative is currently embarking on installation of a sewer reticulation system to its 510 properties located in an area referred to as Empumalanga Phase 5.

“As council, we appreciate the work being undertaken by the cooperative as it is in-line with government’s efforts of curbing dysfunctional settlements. As you are aware, the government has instructed local authorities to desist from allocating unserviced stands in its bid to guard against creation of dysfunctional settlements.”
Nsingo said council sold a piece of land to Dynamic Fund Co-operative following a memorandum of agreement between the two parties.
