Katsimberis fraud trial deferred to January 10

Katsembiris is facing allegations of defrauding fellow property developer West Properties of close to US$1 million in a joint venture to build cluster houses in Borrowdale, Harare.

THE fraud trial of property developer George Katsimberis, which was set to kick off today, has been deferred to January 10 as the presiding magistrate Vongai Guwuriro indicated she will only be available next week.

Katsembiris is facing allegations of defrauding fellow property developer West Properties of close to US$1 million in a joint venture to build cluster houses in Borrowdale, Harare.

During the previous sitting, the magistrate reprimanded Katsimberis for using derogatory language against Deputy Prosecutor-General Michael Reza, whom he accuses of enjoying back-up from the local media.

Katsimberis is making an application for referral of his case to the Constitutional Court and also wants the State to secure him a Greek interpreter arguing that he is not quite fluent in English language.

He has also accused local media of biased reporting, hence he wants the trial to be televised.

Katsimberis went on to accuse Mr Reza of making several lies before the courts.

"He does improper things and gets back up from the media," he said.
