CITIZENS Coalition for Change (CCC) councillors have called the Mvurwi Town Council to order for delaying refuse collection in the town.
Ward 1 councillor Elisha Benjamin and his ward 6 counterpart Tonderai Samhu told the NewsDay yesterday that uncollected litter had become an eyesore in the town.
Shamu said the local authority should start collecting garbage with immediate effect.
“The residents are not happy with the delay in refuse collection by our local authority, hence we are calling it to order. We do not understand why it has suddenly changed from what it used to do; but we are promising residents that sanity will prevail soon at council,” Samhu said.
He pledged to serve the people and deal with corruption in council which previously made headlines over illegal parcelling of stands.
Benjamin also claimed that management at the local authority was sabotaging the recently elected councillors.
“We are beginning to suspect that the local authority is sabotaging CCC councillors who won the majority seats by not collecting refuse,” he said.
“We are not going to take this matter lightly because we have been elected by the people, hence we will deliver as per the people’s mandate.”
Council spokesperson Tafana Chikumarara did not respond to questions sent to him.
However, the Environment Management Agency has described Mvurwi as one of the smartest towns in Zimbabwe.
