A MATABELELAND South province village head struck an election officer after he failed to find his name on the voters roll during the August 23 and 24 harmonised elections.

Bridi Moyo (82), a village head in Madlambudzi under Chief Masendu, struck Lamison Ncube of the same village with a knobkerrie accusing him of denying him his right to vote.

Moyo appeared before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on Friday facing an assault charge.

The court heard that on August 23, Moyo accused the complainant of removing his name after failing to locate it on the voters roll. A misunderstanding ensued and he struck the election officer with a knobkerrie on the knees.

The village head pleaded guilty and was given a wholly suspended sentence of 12 months on condition he does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
