FC PLATINUM coach Norman Mapeza has been appointed Warriors’ interim coach to take charge of the senior men’s team in the four-nation tournament to be hosted by Malawi.

The tournament which also features Kenya and Zambia starts next Monday.

Mapeza will be assisted by Ngezi Platinum coach Takesure Chiragwi, local football mother body Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) said yesterday. The competition comes as an opportunity for the Warriors as they prepare for the next round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

“Zifa is pleased to announce that Norman Mapeza has been appointed as the interim head coach of the men’s Zimbabwe national team, for the upcoming four-nations tournament in Malawi. The tournament, which will be played in Lilongwe from March 18 to 26, features hosts Malawi, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe,” Zifa said in a statement.

Mapeza takes over from former Highlanders’ coach Baltemar Brito, whose contract ended at the end of the year after taking charge of the Warriors in the World Cup qualifiers in Rwanda last November.

They drew 0-0 with Rwanda and 1-1 with Nigeria in November.

The Warriors have their next World Cup qualifiers against Lesotho and South Africa in June.

They will also play in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
