HERENTALS FC kept their top four ambitions on track after they beat Sheasham in a tightly contested league match at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

A penalty by Brighton Majarira 10 minutes from time separated the two teams and compounded Sheasham’s relegation woes with five matches remaining in the league season.

The students moved into fifth place with 45 points from 29 matches, one behind fourth-placed Dynamos who make the long trip to Kariba today.

After the win, Herentals leapfrogged 2015 champions Chicken Inn who drew one-all with Black Rhinos as well as Manica Diamonds who host Hwange this afternoon.

Herentals coach Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva was happy with his team bouncing back to winning ways after a midweek defeat on the road in Hwange.

“It’s a big win for us after the defeat to Hwange at the Colliery. It’s the best recovery that we have done, after the travelling we have done going there and coming back. "The boys had little time to recover but they have done well looking at the way they played against Sheasham. Our objective for the season is top four; we have to fight for it until the end we are still hopeful that we can achieve it,” he said.

The hosts were given a spot kick after the referee adjudged that Ali Maliselo was fouled by Elton Sibanda.

Up stepped Majarira to convert the penalty.

Sheasham are in 15th place with 31 points from 29 matches and have the same number of points with Triangle FC in 14th place, but the latter have a better goal difference.

Their coach Lizwe Sweswe felt his team played well and were unfortunate to concede a late penalty.

“I think the game was balanced maybe save for that moment when we conceded a penalty but everything was okay. From where I was standing I don’t know if it was penalty but we continue to fight for survival and we look forward to the next game,” he said after the match.
