Zimbabwe senior netball star Felistus Kwangwa has made a flying start with Surrey Storm in the English topflight netball league.

Surrey Storm opened their campaign this season with a 68-56 win over Strathclyde Sirens on Saturday before outclassing Severn Stars 76-51 in their second match on Monday.

“I have enjoyed my stay here so far and each new day is a learning opportunity for me both on and off court. As we move on with our games this season, I’m looking forward to more wins as we now have two victories on the bounce so this is a huge confidence boost for the team,” she said.

Kwangwa wrote her own piece of history when she became the first Zimbabwean to join the English Netball Super League when she joined Surrey back in 2021 and she is now in her third season with the club.

The Gems captain’s impact last season saw her winning two awards: the Coach’s Player of the Season and the Fans Player of the Season.

Reflecting from when she joined Surrey Storm, Kwangwa noted that this opportunity had worked for the better in her career growth and would go a long way in also preparing her for the upcoming World Cup tournament.

“I believe these games I’m playing here will go a long way and bring a positive impact towards my preparations for the Netball World Cup as the league is highly competitive and most of the players will be representing their nations at the tournament,” she said.

Kwangwa has also helped the Gems to secure qualification for a second successive World Cup spot which will be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa this year.
