Manyame Falcons HC and Manyame SparrowsHC (women) emerged victorious at the recently concluded TG Handball tournament held at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ).
The tournament saw participation of eight men's teams and six for the women.
The TG tournament is held once every year as a curtain raiser for regional handball leagues and is hosted by Tawanda Gorimani in partnership with Steel Panther.
“The TG handball tournament was a success. It went well despite the challenges we faced along the way. I must say the turn out for me was a disappointment as teams from other provinces did show up for the games,” Gorimani said.
“The future of the handball in the country is uncertain as there are a lot of changes that need to be done so that we have a swift flow of the games. But the TG Foundation will help the handball family achieve success.”
Zimbabwe Handball Federation secretary Edson Chiroodza said they were pleased that clubs were becoming more professional and that the new clubs that joined the board were fierce competitors,
“The tournament was well organised. There was high level of handball being exhibited by the clubs. We are happy that our clubs are getting professional, some clubs were well presented and new clubs which came on board were very competitive which shows that handball is growing in Zimbabwe. ZHF hopes to establish a national league in the near future.”
In the women's category, Manyame Sparrows HC clinched the gold medal, with City Stars HC getting silver and UZ Wildcats HC taking home the bronze.

In the men's category, Manyame Falcons HC took home the gold, Spikers HC silver, and Ajax HC from Bulawayo securing the bronze medal.
Tanyaradzwa Kahari from Manyame Sparrows impressed as the best goalkeeper in the women's category.
Sparrows dominated the women's individual awards, with Fortunate Zisengwe named Most Valuable Player and Ayanda Membere taking home the Top Goal Scorer title. Mudiwa Tangwena from the University of Zimbabwe was recognized as the Most Improved Player in the women's division.
On the men's side, Brandon Kenala from Spikers earned the Best Goalkeeper title, Shawn Thomas from Spikers Handball Club shone as the Most Valuable Player, while Blessed Makomborero Musarurwa, also from Spikers, emerged as the Top Goal Scorer.
Motion Manhembe from UZ Handball Club rounded off the individual awards after being named the Most Improved Player in the men's category.
