Recently crowned Miss Nature Zimbabwe Mitchell Kudzai Matizha says her participation in Miss Nature 2024 was driven by a desire to contribute to the protection and preservation of the environment.
“I’ve always felt a strong connection to nature, and as someone who is passionate about sustainable development goal 15 (Life on Land), the Miss Nature platform presented the perfect opportunity for me to take meaningful action.
“This pageant wasn’t just about pursuing another title for me; it was about aligning my personal and professional values with a cause that can drive global change," Matizha said.
"I also saw this as an incredible chance to grow my modelling career while advocating for something bigger than myself.
“Being able to contribute to environmental awareness through a platform like Miss Nature was an honor, and it reaffirmed my belief that we all have a role to play in ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.”.
Matizha said her Life on Land project focuses on raising awareness about environmental degradation, deforestation, and the need for conservation efforts to preserve our natural habitats.
“The health of our planet is intricately connected to human well-being, and I believe that we all have a responsibility to safeguard the environment for future generations.
“Through my platform, I’m committed to educating communities on how they can contribute to this global mission, whether it’s through tree planting initiatives, reducing waste, or advocating for policies that protect wildlife and ecosystems.

“The environment sustains all life, and if we don’t act now, the consequences will be dire for both people and the planet.”
Besides being a model, Miss Nature said she was pursuing a degree in law at the University of Zimbabwe.
"Balancing law studies with my modelling career has taught me the importance of discipline and time management.
“Law is a demanding field, but my passion for advocating for justice and fairness keeps me motivated.
“In many ways, the focus and dedication I bring to my studies have shaped my approach to modelling, making me more resilient in navigating challenges within the industry.”.
The four-time crown pageantry winner said each of the titles she won represents not just personal triumphs but also the opportunity to advocate for causes close to her heart, especially through my Life on Land project.
Miss Nature said her biggest piece of advice to young models is to always be yourself and keep pushing forward, no matter how tough things get.
"The modelling industry can be challenging, but staying true to who you are will always set you apart. Authenticity is everything — people are drawn to individuals who are confident in their own skin. Beyond that, persistence is key.
“There will be setbacks, but those who keep pushing, learning, and growing are the ones who succeed.
“It’s important to also surround yourself with supportive people and to never lose sight of why you started.
“Every model has their own journey, and it’s important to embrace yours with determination and grace.”
Matizha said she started her modelling journey in 2022; she was motivated by the desire to express myself in a new and creative way.
“Modelling offered a platform where I could combine my love for fashion, advocacy, and communication. Over time, I realized that it wasn’t just about wearing beautiful clothes—it was about using my voice and presence to inspire others and to raise awareness on issues I care about, like environmental sustainability and women’s empowerment.”
Matizha said the most challenging part of modelling was dealing with cyberbullying.
Unfortunately, the public eye often invites negativity, and learning how to navigate that has been tough. However, I’ve learned to develop a thick skin and to focus on the positive aspects of my work rather than the criticism," she said.
She further illustrates that besides the backdrop of cyberbullying, modelling is filled with exciting experiences, be it meeting people and the lessons learned along the way, and the personal growth.
“Modelling has allowed me to connect with amazing individuals from all walks of life, and I treasure those relationships and the wisdom they bring.
“Each pageant or project brings its own set of challenges, but they’re always opportunities to grow.”
