Ghanaian singer jets in for Zim maiden concert

GHANAIAN Afro-pop and Rhythm Blues musician Camidoh is expected to touch down at Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport today for his Zimbabwean debut performance at Nyamhunga Stadium, Kariba,tomorrow.

Afro Empire Music and Boss Ringo Entertainment are behind the show dubbed Heat Wave that will for the first time see an international artiste performing in the resort town.

Born Raphael Camidoh Kofi Attachi, the 28-year-old singer will share the stage with local dancehall chanter Jah Master, Bazooker and Afro jazz band Achoed.

Rocking it on the turntables will be Chillspot family wheelspinners, Levels, Fantan and Ribhe alongside Selector Odza and DJ Edza B.

Concert organiser Boss Ringo confirmed to NewsDay Life & Style that Camidoh will arrive today ahead of tomorrow’s concert.

“Preparations for the show have been going well and are at an advanced stage. All is set for Camidoh’s arrival today,” Boss Ringo noted.

“This show is a great boost for tourism in Kariba, a potential tourism (hub), hence the coming in of Camidoh will awaken the sleeping giant. We have partnered tourism players in Kariba to present a total package for the period before and after the gig.”

Boss Ringo said the coming in of Camidoh will create exposure to local artistes who are also set to learn a lot from Camidoh, from stage performance to management.

Advance tickets for the concert are going for US$10, while the VIP ones are pegged at US$30.

A background check for Camidoh shows that he was initiated into music by Senegalese-American artiste Akon whom he cites as his musical inspiration and influence.

Camidoh then signed for Grind Don’t Stop Records in 2018 and went on to release his first single titled For My Lover, which featured Darkovibes in that same year.

Camidoh’s prowess in showbiz has not gone unnoticed given the number of nominations for awards he has so far received.

His discography includes singles, For My Lover featuring Darkovibes (2018), The Best featuring Kelvyn Boy (2019), TikTok (Available) featuring Eugy (2020), Maria (2020), Dance With You featuring Kwesi Arthur (2021) and Sugarcane featuring Phantom (2021).
