ZPC Kariba’s fight against relegation suffered a major blow after a one nil loss to Bulawayo City at a packed Nyamhunga Stadium in Kariba yesterday.

A goal by Dalumuhle Dlodlo 15 minutes before fulltime gave Bulawayo a massive win which also boosted their chances of survival as they built on last week’s victory over Dynamos.

It was a gift of a goal as the visitors capitalised on a blunder by goalkeeper Tapiwa Chilenga to snatch maximum points on the road.

It was the home team that had a better first half, but missed the chances that came their way.

Kudzanayi Dhemere had a close chance in the fifth minute, but the ball went wayward. Dhemere had another close after the half hour mark but failed to direct into gaol a cross from Samuel Makawa

Bulawayo City, who didn't create chances in the first half, nearly nosed ahead after a dribble by Dalubuhle Dlodlo in the 40th minute.

The visitors were the better team in the second half with the team creating a lot of chances but failing to convert.

ZPC Kariba Interim Coach Darlington Dlodlo could not hide his disappointment.

"It's unfortunate that we could not win the match and it's sad to lose the match that you have an upper hand throughout but such is football," said Dlodlo.

"In terms of relegation it’s pressure for us because if we had won the game, we would have removed pressure on us.

Bulawayo City Coach, Farai Tawachera said: "I think we did our best. First half we wanted to control them. In the second half it was a changed game altogether and we came victorious. To us this was also like a final because if we had allowed these guys to beat us, it was going to be a bad day for us but now competition is open for us.”

City, in 15th place, are now two points behind ZPC Kariba who are just above the relegation zone with 35 points.

Meanwhile, prison wardens Tenax got relegated after losing 5 – 0 at home to Ngezi Platinum Stars yesterday while Harare City badly need a miracle to survive as they trail ZPC Kariba by six points with two matches left after they played a one all draw with relegated Wha Wha.
