By IRENE MOYO KARIBA-based freelance writer Laiton Kandawire has died. He was 51.

Community radio station, Patsaka Nyaminyami Community Radio confirmed his death at Mtandanderi Hospital in Zambia.

“Today at Mtandanderi Mission Hospital, Zambia, marks the end of the earthly time for Kandawire,” Patsaka Nyaminyami Community Radio said.

“It’s with a sad heart that the man leaves at a time Kariba needed him most. Laiton, whose cognitive structures were so ambidextrous, was rooted in the tourism, media, and humanitarian industries.

“The man is one person who has excelled in marketing Kariba to be a better tourist destination, his advocacy work in service delivery and accountability has won him awards.”

Kandawire’s body is still in Zambia and the process to move his body to Zimbabwe is underway.

Kandawire is survived by his wife and three children.

“The void Laiton left is too big to fill within the local community of Kariba,” the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists said in a statement.
