Hwange on Wednesday boosted their chances of survival in the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League with an away win over Bulawayo Chiefs to recover from their weekend setback against Dynamos.

A sixth minute header by experienced striker Dominic Chungwa was enough to seal victory for the coalminers. Chungwa headed to the near post off an inch perfect cross from Claivert Tshuma.

It was yet another frustrating afternoon for Chiefs as their struggles upfront continued. They were toothless in the final third even though they did enjoy the lion's share of possession especially in the second half.

Hwange could have won by a wider margin had they been precise in front of goal.

Chiefs' only attempt was after 25 minutes when Nkosiyabo Masilela shot from a distance but his effort went off target.

With 10 minutes into the second half, Tshuma failed to beat the goalkeeper after stealing the ball from Jameson Masaza but his shot went over the bar.

Eventually, Hwange gained the maximum points to move to 16 points.

Coach Rodwell Dlakama expressed his delight noting that it was their first away victory this season.

"We could have wrapped the game in the first half where we missed an avalanche of chances. But it's important that we won the game. Especially considering the fact that from the start of the season, we had not won an away game. From where I am standing, the team is improving," Dhlakama said.

Bulawayo Chiefs coach Thulani Sibanda was disappointed with the result but is optimistic that results will start coming.

They are hoping to add two strikers that the club is tracking.
