Delta, CABS win Social volleyball pre-season tourney

DELTA men and CABS women emerged as the Social Wellness Volleyball League (SWVL) pre-season open tournament winners after edging Econet 2-1 and NetOne 2-0 respectively in the finals played at Churchill High School on Sunday.

The winners walked away with a trophy and medals while Delta men claimed the bulk of individual brilliance awards.

Relentlessly attacker, Samson Makuyana, received the Best Attacker and Most Valuable Player while Justice Raradza got the Best Setter gong as Delta reigned supreme.

Econet on the other had their duo of new kid on the block Tawanda Pamire and Blessing Chimanga also picking up individual awards.

AFC's Portia Chiwetu walked away with the Best Receiver Award.

In the groups, Delta made light work of CBZ and Cimas dismissing them on a similar 2-0 scoreline in Pool B. Econet were equally lethal defeating Zimra and Nyaradzo by similar scorelines in the Pool A matches.

AFC emulated their counterparts beating POSB and RBZ 2-0 in Pool C while CABS beat ZB 2-0 and Stanbic 2-1 to sail through to the quarterfinals.

The first quarterfinal saw Econet beat POSB 2-0, Delta accounted for ZB 2-0, AFC edged Zimra 2-1 while CABS clobbered Cimas 2-0.

The two finalists Econet and Delta went on to beat AFC and CABS 2-1 in their respective semifinal matches.

"The tournament marks the beginning of the SWVL league which starts this coming weekend. We would like to urge our members to continue partaking in wellness related gigs, it is the main reason why this league was convened," said SWVL chairperson Justice Raradza.

CABS dismissed AFC in the third place playoff to win bronze while Econet settled for silver after losing to Delta in the final.

The women's final standings saw CABS ruling the roost, NetOne came second, RBZ claimed third place. ZB finished fourth while Stanbic anchored the table.
