CHICKEN INN . . . . (1) 1

TRIANGLE . . . . . . . . . .  0

CHICKEN Inn managed to secure second position on the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log when they beat Triangle in an exciting match at Luveve Stadium yesterday.

The hosts opened the scoring just 10 minutes into the encounter through Itai Mabunu’s spectacular header from a Xolani Ndlovu cross.

Chicken Inn defended that goal to the end, to end the league on a high note

Head coach Joey Antipas was excited after the match.

"We did not play our usual match, but we deserved to get that second spot," Antipas said.

His counterpart Thomas Ruzive, whose side remains in the top league next season, said his boys played well.

"The boys played very well. We played one of the best teams in the league," Ruzive said.

After taking their season tally to 63 points from 33 matches, the Gamecocks cannot be overtaken by third-placed Dynamos, who are on 57 points.

In another match played on Saturday, Highlanders suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat against relegated Harare City at the National Sports Stadium.

Harare City hardly looked like a side which has already been relegated from the top-flight league after storming to a 3-0 lead in a dominant first half performance.

Teenage striker Alexendar Mandinyenya broke the deadlock in the first half in the fourth minute before City stretched their lead in the 18th minute through Timothy January.

Mandiyenya completed his brace seven minutes later to virtually end Highlanders’ hopes of a winning finish.

Highlanders put on a better performance in the second half but by the time Stanley Ngala scored in the 87th minute, the damage had already been done.
