Mapeza discovers another gem

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza has heaped praises on yet another gem that has been unearthed by the miners as they march towards their fourth consecutive Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.

Oscar Bhebhe has become their go-to super sub, who comes in to change the complexion of games for them as they bid to hold off the spirited challenge from Dynamos for their crown.

“Horror”, as he is fondly known, had been playing second fiddle to Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya who took the Premier Soccer League by storm and has the starting berth.

But Bhebhe is proving that he can be just as good as his teammate.

On Saturday, the 19-year-old emerging star again proved his mettle when he was introduced as a second half substitute, with FC Platinum struggling to break Manica Diamonds who simply congested the centre of the park to deny them the space.

“These are our players; as long as they do this I am going to give them time. We were not getting the chances but we brought him (Oscar Bhebhe) in and he gave us width,” Mapeza braggingly said.

“But some of the chances we miss, you can be forced to think again if they are ready for this. I’m happy with his progress and I hope it will remain the same until the season ends.”

Bhebhe’s introduction swung the pendulum to the log leaders and they deservedly broke the deadlock on the 73rd minute before he scored their second goal in the referee’s additional time.

FC Platinum maintained their six-point gap over second-placed Dynamos, who defeated Harare City 2-1 on Sunday.

Third-placed Chicken Inn suffered another setback with a 2-1 home defeat to Ngezi Platinum Stars at the weekend and are now 10 points behind with eight matches to go.

How Horror will fare till the end of the season remains to be seen but at the moment he is FC Platinum’s man-of-the-moment.
