Dzengesu Mutsara told Harare magistrate Johanna Mukwesha that his son Shelton Kawonde was abusing illicit drugs.

A 28-year-old Harare man was dragged to court on Friday by her mother for threatening to commit suicide if she did not buy him drugs.

Dzengesu Mutsara told Harare magistrate Johanna Mukwesha that his son Shelton Kawonde was abusing illicit drugs.

She said earlier this month, Kawonde demanded US$ 20 to buy drugs.

“I did not give him the money and that is when he became violent towards me and threatening to kill himself,” she submitted.

She pleaded with the court for a protection order.

“Previously, he came home drunk and high on drugs and he started shouting at me saying that I should leave his father’s house while he was holding an iron bar.”

Mutsara said she did not want her son to be evicted because he had nowhere to go.

She told the court to order her son to be submissive and respectful.

Kawonde admitted that he had been abusive towards his mother and blamed his behaviour on alcohol.

He was ordered to stop harassing his mother.

Mukwesha ordered that he undergoes counseling for the next three months.
