Zupco drivers allege tribalism

ZIMBABWE United Passenger Company (Zupco) bus drivers in Bulawayo have claimed unfair distribution of fuel at Khami depot.

Bus drivers claimed that their peers from stations managed by Ndebele-speaking supervisors were being denied access to fuel at the Khami depot, where drivers from stations supervised by Shona-speaking managers reportedly receive first preference.

The drivers told NewsDay that their buses were being blocked from re-fuelling due to tribalism.

“Our buses are blocked and ordered out of the refuelling queue by certain supervisors... They end up spending the whole day waiting for fuel,” said one driver who preferred to remain anonymous.

Zupco Dispatch supervisor Worshipgod Dzinavanhu professed ignorance over the complaints.
